SAC and its aircraft
Through 49 issues of Le Moniteur de l'Aéronautique
The first issue of the magazine "Le Moniteur de l'Aéronautique" hit the newsstands in October 1977. In November 1981, the last issue
In November 1981, the last issue brought to an end 49 issues rich in aviation news and history.
In each of its issues, the magazine has focused on the history, evolution and current affairs of the world's greatest air power, the
air power on the planet, that of the United States. At the time,
we were at the height of the Cold War and one of the components of the American air force was of particular interest to the editors: the Strategic Air Command, the instrument of the
doctrine of mutually assured destruction. Each article, signed by internationally recognised specialists, is accompanied by a rich iconography. Each one sheds a different light on the manned air component of American deterrence in its own way.
Fragmentary, quasi-impressionistic, this compilation does not pretend to treat the subject in an exhaustive manner. It is simply a snapshot.
It has the value of a snapshot that fixes a certain vision.
The way things were seen more than forty years ago.
