De Cantos, Paulo J. - Aviation (for everyone) (1919)

A treatise on the state of aviation in 1919. Paulo J. de Cantos, a professor seconded to France by the Portuguese government, aims to popularise, but not simplify. After a short first part devoted to the general principles of flight and aerodynamics, the author explains clearly how an aircraft, its engine and propeller are made. Ansani, Salmon, Rhône, Galloway "Atlantic" and Liberty are amply illustrated. All types of monoplane, biplane and seaplane are then reviewed (with some interesting drawings of German cockpits); navigation, instruments and weather are explained. And the book ends with a section on the regulations of the Portuguese Air Force Aviation School.
